Davy J: Conscious Swimwear Designed to Survive a Dive
Davy J make beautiful, technical and eco-friendly swimwear from ghost fishing nets and other marine waste damaging our oceans. The concept originated from founder Helen Newcombe’s passion for the seas, frustrations with flimsy suits that couldn’t ‘keep up’ with her adventurous side and the desire to build a business that looks at resources in a different way.
The idea is wonderful, and we’re delighted to report that the execution is even better. Durability has been considered down to the last stitch. Anything you can think to do in the water, be it wild swimming, jumping from cliffs or pummeling your skin under a waterfall, this swimwear was designed to handle it. The suits are all double lined and built from a high elastane composition to provide extra strength, durability and shape. The beautiful cross back design with hidden rubber edging perfectly blends form with function, giving you full flexibility along with the support you need to push yourself to the limit. Even if cliff bombing isn’t your cup of tea, how great is it to be secure in the knowledge that your top (and everything in it) will be staying exactly where you left it?
Davy J pride themselves on being a circular retail brand and have an outstanding awareness of their social and environmental responsibility. In this first collection each suit is made from 100% regenerated nylon yarn from ocean waste. An average of 640,000 tons of fishing nets are left in the oceans every year, the equivalent to one tenth of all marine litter. For every ton of waste nets collected there is enough nylon regenerated to create more than 10,000 swimsuits!
Beyond this collection Davy J are aiming to create a closed-loop resource system within the brand. Just by touching them, you’ll know that these are suits designed to last. However when your suit finally reaches the end of its life you can send it right back to Davy J who will take responsibility for giving the raw materials a second, or indeed third, life. For such a new brand, Davy J are already making a big splash.
